How can I remove bitumen from my wood floor

I am still getting comments on removing bitumen from wood floors. This is a problem I had myself. We (my wife and I) took the carpet up in our hallway intending to replace it. To my surprise, a beautiful parquet floor was revealed. After much persuasion, my wife agreed to not replacing the carpet but I had to agree to keeping the floor clean.

After years of being covered by carpets, the floor really needed a thorough clean, there being years of dust and grime and, in places, the bitumen used to stick the wood tiles down had seeped up between the tiles.. My first job then was to sweep the floor in order to remove the years of dust. My second job was to sweep the floor (again). By this time the floor was looking much better although still needed cleaning.

To do the cleaning, I got down on my hands and knees (I could do that in those days!) and using Scotchbrite (a non-abrasive scouring material) soaked in Heritage Woodcare scrubbed the floor, following the grain of the wood tiles. The scrubbing not only cleaned and polished the tiles but also removed the bitumen and the odd paint spot. The Scotchbrite needed to be reasonably damp so had not been wrung out and the floor was left quite damp so I buffed up using kitchen towel. This left the floor looking really good with a sheen rather than high shine.

To keep the floof clean and polished now, I use a squeegee mop (kept specifically for the floor), soaked in heritage, and just wipe. I need to give the floor a few minutes to dry thoroughly before walking on it. The floor looks really good after using my Heritage and needs only a sweep in between polishing to retain the sheen.

How do I rewax a wax jacket?

In my recent posts I have been telling you about Heritage Leathercare and its uses. This has coincided with a number of contacts I have had on rewaxing a wax jacket.

This is a comparatively simple task. Initially you may need to clean your jacket. If you do, I would suggest using a cloth soaked in soapy water and squeezed out such that it still contains a reasonable amount of water. Wipe areas where there is a buildup of marks and then ensure your jacket is totally dry. Now you are ready.

Take your tub of Heritage Leathercare and, using the sponge (provided), wipe over the surface, scraping it across the inside edge to remove any surplus polish and then just wipe, in circular motions, on your jacket. Ensure you cover the whole garment, taking special care that it is not left greasy such that the grease comes off on your other clothes.Where it is greasy, take a soft, clean cloth and buff it up to remove excess wax. The job is now done and your jacket will have that water resistant finish.

What is best for my leather jacket and boots?

In my recent posts I have told you about Heritage Leathercare and also how to use it on leather furniture, etc. In this post I will tell you about other uses for your Heritage Leathercare, in particular for clothing and footwear.

Heritage Leathercare is ideal for use on clothing, particularly Motor Bike Leathers, and as it is colourless, it can be used on any colour.Most leather jackets, trousers and skirts are either black or brown so your Heritage will also clean them as you apply it. Incidentally, I was demonstrating at a show recently and someone asked me if they could use Heritage on their leather underwear! Should your clothing be white or similar light colours, you may need to clean them first. Simply wipe over with a soapy cloth, paying special attention to areas where there is a buildup of marks. Ensure your leather is totally dry and you are then ready.

Take your sponge (provided) and wipe over the surface of your Heritage Leathercare, removing any surplus by wiping on the inside edge of your container. You then simply wipe your leather in circular motions, ensuring your leather is not greasy, if it is then just buff up using a clean and dry soft cloth.

Heritage Leathercare feeds, polishes,and protects your leather, leaving a water resistant finish. It is this latter property that ensures it's suitability for motor bike leathers.

Heritage Leathercare is also ideal for boots and shoes. Mr. N. from Dublin recently wrote to me and said "I want them for my barrister and solicitor who admired my shiny shoes at the courts recently.Hopefully you will have another two customers after tomorrow." Your Heritage will clean and polish your leather boots and shoes at the same time, keeping them soft and water resistant. Using it is very easy, you just load the sponge (provided) in the usual way and then wipe on your boots and shoes. It's ease of use makes it especially suitable for motor bike boots and knee length leather fashion boots.

Note: Heritage Leathercare is NOT recommended for use on suede, nubuck or nappa leathers.

Clean and polish leather furniture and car seats

Having introduced Heritage Leathercare, I will, in this post, tell you about using it on leather furniture, car seats and seating in other areas such as horse driven carriages.

Using it is easy and, (unless you are using it on light colours that need cleaning or other colours with a heavy buildup) requires no preparation. If you do need to clean your leather prior to using your Heritage, simply wash with pure soap (Simple soap, baby soap, soap flakes, etc.) and dry thoroughly. Take your tub and wipe the sponge (provided) across your Heritage, wiping it across the inside edge of the container also to remove any surplus. You are now ready for use and just wipe the Heritage on your leather in circular motions ensuring your leather is not left greasy.Only if your leather is greasy will you need to buff up using a dry cloth to do so.

Your Heritage will polish and protect your leather and will leave a water resistant finish.

What is best for my leather furniture
